One of my favorite things to find in a Civil War pension file is this piece of paper. It can be invaluable when there aren’t other forms of documentation for marriages or births.
Notice it gives his marriage date and place, along with who married them. It also gives the names and birth dates for their living children. And it tells whether or not they were married before.
