Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I thought that St. Patrick’s Day would be the perfect time to highlight my Irish immigrant ancestors.

James Patrick Thornton was born 2 Feb 1824 in Rassan, Ireland.  He immigrated to America and settled in Alton, Illinois and then later moved to the small community of Hubbard, Nebraska.  He died there on 21 Jul 1887.  His wife was Louisa Pottgen.

Patrick O’Connor was born in Apr 1830 in Ireland.  He settled in Dubuque, Iowa and then later moved to Hubbard, Nebraska. He died on 31 Dec 1905.  His wife was Mary Denahy (also born in Ireland).

Here are Patrick and Mary:

That is a great photo! I LOVE how unique they look! I can’t help but wonder what Mary’s personality was like. I bet she was practical, loved to cook for her family, and probably had a great laugh! Or not…that’s the great thing about pictures – they tell stories in your mind! Thanks for sharing! I look forward to following you! :)ReplyCancel
